_The VanGo Project helps kids build the personal capital they need for success in life by engaging them in arts and crafts. The VanGo Project empowers young lives by providing arts and crafts opportunities for kids who might otherwise never get the chance -- or see the reason -- to explore them. We offer independent programs through local schools to help under-served kids develop skills that can open doors to more satisfying lives and greater civic engagement.
We are a community partner of schools in Kitsap County, Washington, where the number of students who qualify for free or reduced meals can exceed seventy percent of the student body. In an area where it is a challenge to meet students’ most basic needs for education and nourishment, it’s no surprise that helping kids to develop healthy self-esteem, creative problem solving skills, and civic engagement is a tall order. Our goal is to increase access to arts and enrichment opportunities, where kids are encouraged to build their own creativity and innovation as they explore arts and crafts, create original works, and make connections with their peers and mentors. We currently serve students in the Bremerton School District and are an associated program of Shunpike, the 501(c)(3) non-profit agency that fuels innovation in the arts by building productive partnerships, cultivating leadership and supporting arts groups and projects of all kinds. They help keep our business affairs in order. You can learn more about Shunpike at www.shunpike.org. |
